5TH MEETING ON THE BIOLOGY OF SPHAGNUM ESTONIA-LATVIA AUGUST 10 – 19, 2012 Welcome to the conference and field excursion of the 5th International Meeting on the Biology of Sphagnum, August 10 – 19, in Estonia and Latvia!
The aim of the conference held in Tartu, Estonia (August 14 – 15) is to present and discuss about new ideas in Sphagnum biology, ecology and taxonomy, and their habitats conservation and restoration issues. During the field excursions to North-Latvia and Estonia in August 10 – 13, and August 16 – 19 you can see the main natural Sphagnum habitat types (from fens and quagmires to raised bogs with pools) in the Baltic region, and also visit some disturbed and restored peatland sites of Estonia. Altogether 53 persons from 18 countries have been registrated as participants of the 5th International Meeting on the Biology of Sphagnum. There will be more than 30 oral and poster presentations on very different aspects of Sphagnum biology and mire ecology.Important dates:
