Birds, musicians and poets perform on the Barge Hall stage at the Emajõgi Lodjakoda

The Nature Festival invites you to the Bird Jam - on Friday, 9 June, at 18:00; birds, musicians and poets will come together at the Lodjakoja in Tartu to focus on urban nature.

In the fourth edition of the Bird Jam, musicians and poets will perform works inspired by birds, be it an interpretation of a bird song in words or music, an impulse from a bird-related folklore or a personal experience.

Bird Jam brings attention to birds and urban wildlife. Historically, the appreciation of nature has gone hand in hand with traditional culture - writers and musicians have drawn much inspiration from birds, their nature and their way of life. Today, bridging the appreciation of nature and its diversity with contemporary art forms, styles, and creative practices is still important.

The Bird Jam brings together musicians and poets who, inspired by the song of a bird species living in Estonia, create their musical vision or a poetic composition of words that interprets or is otherwise inspired by a recording of a bird song performed. This year, the bird species chosen for interpretation are the Common snipe, Great tit, Whooper swan, Eurasian bullfinch, Eurasian jay and the bird of the year, Long-tailed duck.

This year's participants are musicians Kitty Florentine, LI:V, Meisterjaan and writers Doris Kareva, Veronika Kivisilla, Janika Läänemets, Mirjam Parve, Aare Pilv.

Come and enjoy a cosy evening in at Tartu Emajõe Lodjakoja on 9 June at 18.00. The event is free of charge.

The Bird Jam is a part of the Nature Festival programme. The main organiser of the Nature Festival, which will take place from 7-11 June, is the University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden. The Nature Festival is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 programme. The Bird Jam is supported by the City of Tartu, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Environmental Investment Centre. Viking Security provides security for artists and spectators.
