7th Nature Festival will take place in June

The Festival will be held on June 7‒13th 2021 at locations all over Estonia. The Festival seeks to highlight the value of urban nature as a range of diverse habitats, to develop an awareness of nature in an urban setting and to promote sustainable consumption and conduct.

In contrast to previous Festivals, the 2021 Festival will not include an Urban Nature Day in the central park of Tartu – this will be replaced by a variety of different workshops, seminars or lectures at the University of Tartu (UT) Natural History Museum and the UT Botanical Garden, as well as on the premises of the Festival’s partners. The Festival’s co-organizers welcome preliminary proposals for workshops, to be handed in by March 30th at the latest. Submit your proposal HERE.

To document urban nature, a photo competition Metsik Linn [Wild City] – entries to which will be accepted from April 1st to May 16th – will be held under the aegis of the Festival. Details of the competition will be published on the Festival’s website in March.

The Nature Festival’s programme will also include a staple Nature Observation Marathon, to be held on June 12-13th. Public observation grounds can once again be found all over Estonia, allowing those interested to participate and to obtain an initial experience of nature observation assisted by observation guides. The observations made during the marathon will be uploaded to the Biodiversity Data Portal, where they will be accessible to the public. The registration of observation grounds will begin at the end of March, when a specific notice will be published.

The Nature Festival is organized by the UT Natural HIstory Museum and the UT Botanical Garden in collaboration with the Festival’s partners. The Festival has been entered as a candidate for the programme of Tartu as the 2024 European Capital of Culture. The Nature Festival began in 2015 with the holding of the Tartu Nature Week. A year later, the event had grown and was renamed Tartu Nature Festival. Since 2018, festival events have taken place also outside Tartu and the festival’s name was changed to Nature Festival.
