University of Tartu Natural History Museum and Botanical Garden is a partner in the Horizon 2020 project BiCIKL. Within three years, a biodiversity data center will be developed in co-operation with other partners attending the project.

On 7 June, the exhibition titled “Extremely Cute Cohabitation” will be opened at the University of Tartu Botanical Garden, in which four artists show their critical interpretation of human-animal interaction from the perspective of occupying space. The exhibition is also the official opening event for this year’s Nature Festival.

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position in fungal systematics based at Natural History Museum (NHM), University of Oslo (UiO). The contract period is 4 years fulltime, of which 3 years (75%) are devoted to carrying out research and one year (25%) for compulsory work consisting of teaching and supervision, collection work, outreach activities and research assistance.

In 1804, a botany excursion was led to Finland by Professor Gottfried Albrecht Germann, the first Director of the UT Natural History Museum and of the Botanical Garden. Based on their research ON the excursion’s journal, Wolfgang Ilg, Heldur Sander and Ari T. Taponen have written a research paper about the excursion.

On 15–16 May 2019, for the first time, Tartu will host an annual meeting of the Governing Board of CETAF, the Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities. The 45th meeting will bring to Tartu the heads of more than 50 natural history museums and botanical gardens, who will discuss the vulnerability of species and the importance of open data for preservation of biodiversity.
PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE BIRDS!
You are kindly asked not to feed the waterfowl (mallards and gulls) that you see in the pond at the Botanical Gardens or any of the non-migratory birds (such as crows and pigeons) you encounter on the Gardens’ premises.
Feeding the birds through all seasons harms their health and alters behaviours characteristic of the species.

The exhibition The World in a Rucksack by the University of Tartu Natural History Museum, is scheduled to open on 26 April at Tallinn Zoo and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Estonia’s national university. The exhibition will open at UT Natural History Museum on 27 November 2019.
