Part of the exhibition "Enter Woodland Spirits" opens at the Natural History Museum on Friday, June 28th

On Friday, June 28th, the international technological art exhibition "Enter Woodland Spirits" will open as part of the main program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. The exhibition aims to bring folk tales to life and make the spirituality of nature tangible. It will take place in two neighbouring buildings: the Estonian Literature Museum and the University of Tartu Natural History Museum.

"Enter Woodland Spirits" will take you on a journey through two historic buildings, where you can encounter installation environments, sound and video works, AI-generated and augmented reality manipulating artworks, kinetic sculptures and other hybrid forms where the art experience is multi-sensory.

Nearly 20 artists from the Nordic and Baltic countries will participate in the exhibition, of whom 14 new works will be created, inspired in several cases by the natural heritage of Estonia. Closely intertwined with the exhibition project is the newly created anthology "Estonian Nature Folklore", which highlights the rich folklore collections and their value from an ecological perspective - the Nordic and woodland people's way of thinking, with both a practical and sustainable aspect, as well as a respectful relationship with nature as a soulful, powerful partner.

The exhibition will feature Bryndís Björnsdóttir, Þorsteinn Eyfjörð from Iceland, Oskar Koliander from Denmark, Tori Wrånes, Ingrid Torvund and Jonas Mailand from Norway, Hans Rosenström, Niskanen & Salo in collaboration with Inkeri Aula, Pia Sirén, Nastja Säde Rönkkö from Finland, Linda Boļšakova, ART+ from Latvia and Norman Orro and Joonas Timmi, Zody Burke, Johannes Luik, Emer Värk, Roman-Sten Tõnissoo, Mari-Leen Kiipli from Estonia.

The event will be held outdoors in the courtyard of the Estonian Literature Museum, between the museum and the University of Tartu Natural History Museum, if the weather is nice. In the event of rain, the location will be moved to the grand auditorium of the University of Tartu Natural History Museum.
